UNOFFICIAL MINUTES, AS NONE WERE ACTUALLY TAKEN AT THE TIME
Present: Kaye, Fay, Jenine, Katrina, Helena, Becky, Zeti, Gillian, Robyn
The purpose of this meeting was to celebrate the success of the Carnival.
Consensus: Well done, everyone! Especially Fay who did an outstanding job of motivating people to volunteer and take ownership of their own area of the Carnival, and for keeping expenses so very very low.
Turn out was lower than in previous years, partly because of weather. Can assume economy hurt us a bit as well.
Food was FANTASTIC. Wine auction SPECTACULAR. Well done, food and wine teams.
Final profit on the day is about $15,000. Up from previous years, even though gross take on the day was down. This is all because of Fay’s expert management.
Extra thanks to Greg and Ian Bradnam for all the extra hours of help they gave Fay and the rest of the PTA in making it all happen.
Request that everyone write up their lessons learned while they are still fresh and get them in to Jenine so she can incorporate them into the “How to Throw a Carnival” package.
Some discussion of what comes next was also had.
Ideas:
- Matariki family day. Idea: PTA hold a barbecue and host some games on the hard court at school. We’ve got all the food and drink already, so no expenses. Set for June 13, Sunday, at 2:00 pm. Ideas for games run to the easy and cheap: 3-legged races, egg and spoon, etc.
- Lawless in Leigh. Idea: Rent a hall (Whangateau or Leigh). Do it up like a saloon in the old west. Sell tickets for “Dinner and a Show.” Fancy dress. Put on a dinner with a beast on a spit, provide entertainment (Pipi Pickers, dancing girls, jokes and comedy.) Tables for poker. Have costume elements for people to buy or rent (hats, vests, skirts). Cash bar rounds it out for a fun and profitable night. Everyone very excited about this, but may have to wait until November or December to get it all together. It would be nice to be able to do it earlier, but it’s a big job and is worth taking the time to get it right as this could be a real keeper.
We need to have an AGM, elect new officers, etc. Set for May 27th, Thursday, after school
