PTA Meeting Thursday, 25 February 2010

Present: Kaye, Faye, Jenine, Katrina, Jo, Helena, Becky
Apologies: Kate

This meeting is all about the carnival. We touched on a number of issues.

Music: Greg and Rachel? Jenine has contacted Pudding and Tom Irvine. Still waiting for response. Musicians get some fish fillets and a cray.

Sleds for ice slide. Plastic doesn’t work. Boogie boards get destroyed. Jo and Helena to source sleds for this year from snow planet or elsewhere.

Baking: decided no on donut machine. How do we get more baked goods? Bake days? Or ... ?

Performance stage: Jenine to ask Mahu college kapa haka group if they’ll do 10 minutes or something on the stage.

Faye and Gillian went down and talked to fisheries, organised slide and fish/crayfish for this year. Thought to thank fisheries, perhaps organise a morning tea for the fisheries people.

Fish filleting team: ask Rex, Wayne, Barry, Becs
Crayfish cooking: Gillian is offering to sort that. Talk to Cath, Greg for help.

Helena got 12.5 dozen oysters donated by Biomarine Oysters

Josh smokes the fish. Should we also contact the Matakana smokehouse guy?

Drinks: boxes of juice are popular, Helena and Becky sorting for food stall. Jenine to order only 6 boxes of water.

Food menu: Trying for 4 lambs for the spit this year. Jenine, asking a friend about getting 2 lambs from a farmer. Rebecca has already talked to Barry about making gumbo again. Helena doing 100 portions of ceviche. Gourmet fish burgers. Putting the price up to $6. Sausages.

Someone should contact local bakers about getting bread to go with the gumbo. How about making mussel fritters? What to do with the donated oysters? Quick fire raffle off or feed them to people?

Food plan is to have one tent for pre-made food and another tent for food being cooked. Or, if not separate tents, then separate lines or sections, just to keep things moving.

Cover: Kaye has spoken to National Bank to get the big marquee we used for food last year. Gillian talking to Coast Guard about another marquee. Jenine has asked to use Mahu’s brown safari tents again. Fay talking to Warkworth Rugby club for big marquee.

Huda and Huni’s family had a Malaysian food stall at preschool gala, Fay to talk to them about doing something this year?

Silent auction: Gaynor Tahitahi. Jenine: send her the signs and make sure she gets donations to sort.
