September 22, 2009.
Present: Jenine Abarbanel, Robyn Minson, Selena Grant, Gillian Irons, Kate McConnell, Katrina Hunter, Colleen Julian
Meeting opened, 3:18 pm
Minutes from previous meeting. Moved to accept by Gillian, seconded by Selena
Matters arising from last meeting:
- Murals: Have decided to do one mural a year. Sandy Meharry to do first one.
- BBQ: going to have to have to bite bullet and pay McEntee. $500. Jenine to pitch in $150 towards it, PTA $350.
- Pool grant: Gillian and James to do it tomorrow.
- School clothing/sweatshirts: Gillian took it to the board. Everyone is keen to have a warm top, fleece or sweatshirt, but NO HOOD. Consider beanie to cover the wee bairns heads.
Correspondence:
Resene has sent around application for grants. Gillian going to send one in for paint.
Treasurer’s Report:
Submitted by Selena. Reviewed by committee. Moved to accept: Robyn. Seconded: Jenine. Page 1. Page 2.
General Business:
- Hockey BBQ grossed $350, but we spent $450 on materials. But that was supplies for upcoming events, so future events should have lower costs. 1.5 trays of juices, sauces, perhaps sausages?
- Disco: Kate confirmed venue. Susan sorting out on the Sawmill side. Robyn will use leftovers from Carnival for prizes. Robyn going to round up men to work the barbecue. Doing burgers and sausages. Jenine has sent out notices to local schools, papers, RDC. Cath is taking flyers to Snells Beach, Jenine taking them to Matakana. Food order.
- NZPTA membership is up for renewal. Deciding to flag it until we need something from them.
- Calendar: Room 1 is not doing it. Gillian suggests we pay Fay or other staff member to do it as a job. Committee feels it would be better to find someone keen with the computer graphics to do it as a “labour of love”. Kate and Jenine to write up an ad for Gillian to put a note in the newsletter seeing if there’s any interest. Job includes: putting the art pages together, putting the calendar pages together, and lining up sponsor ads.
- Pool: Gillian has requested 3 quotes for fencing, 3 quotes for toilets, still waiting on those. Resource consent is an issue getting composting toilets, so Gillian prefers sticking to standard. Issue is pumping sewerage up to the sewerage field. Still working on that. Looking at something called a “skin” for coating the bottom and sides of the pool instead of painting. Guaranteed for 10 years, but usually last 15 or 20. Similar to fibreglas type stuff. Fencing is very expensive, it needs to be straight bars, not chain link, because it is too easy to climb! Gillian would like to have toilets for the summer, but not sure that’s going to happen. Final
- Landscaping and verge. Gillian working with the council. Council had a very expensive quote. Gillian has had some local contractors quote it to the council. The bus bay has been cleared, and a sign is being made.
- Carnival. Plan, put a notice in the newsletter outlining the jobs that need to be done, and call a meeting asking for people interested in taking bits or pieces. Emphasize that some jobs can be done without having to be here over Easter Weekend, so even if people won’t be here, they can still contribute. Invite a rep from the staff, local community for input.
Next meeting: Thursday 29th October, to correspond with Board Meeting. Will have a Carnival Focus. Ritchie to chair if available.
Meeting adjourned 4:41 pm. Well done, everyone.
