Carnival planning

I am so excited about how Carnival organisation is going right now. I mean, look at this dream team we’ve got assembled so far:
Turf N Surf: Ritchie Watson and Kevin Hume
Wine Auction: Cath Lewis
Food: Dan O’Donnell, Dave Marshall, and Kate McConnell
Art Auction: Sandy Meharry and Kerrin Jamison
School Stalls and Fun: Naeri Nicholls and Kay Mueller
Garage Sale: Selena Grant and NIcola Smith
Raffles: Jeanine and Stuart Greaves
Money handling: Gillian Irons
and Arts and Entertainment (along with general overall organising) will be managed by Yours Truly, Jenine Abarbanel.

We now need someone to take on the silent auction, and plants/produce/cakes and we are AWAY, people. We are really moving. Weather permitting, this will be the best Carnival ever.

Healthy lunch? Yes we can!

Haven’t updated the ol’ blog in a while. That was a mistake! In the meantime so much has happened, most recently Pet Day on October 31.

Well done to Wilfred, Kay and Judith for their work preparing and serving “Build-your-Own” Burritos for lunch on Pet Day. They were delicious, and super healthy, with kids filling up their mince burritos with their choice of lettuce, tomato, carrot, cheese, black beans onion and salsa. Very affordable at $3, it seemed as if nearly everyone there had one until the mince ran out! Great job, folks.

We failed to get organised this year for Halloween, and yet it happened anyway. There were dozens and dozens of costumed kids wandering the streets happily in search of candy. They had to work to find the friendly houses, but nobody seemed to mind. They were grateful for the candy they got, and just had a good time showing off their costumes and wandering the streets.

How’s this for an idea for next year: we put a sign up at the store again, and a note in the Leigh Rag, and someone has even suggested a larger sign out in front of the school. We could also tie it in with a road safety campaign: Children out and about, PLEASE SLOW DOWN! And maybe produce and hand out paper pumpkins for houses in Leigh who are ready for trick-or-treaters to hang outside their doors.

What about other Halloween theme events? Ghost story readings? Parties? Let us know what you think, drop us an e-mail.

Next event: SANTA PARADE in Warkworth, December 6th. Parade starts at 1:00pm. We need about 10 kids to walk, dance, and cartwheel alongside our Carnival float. Email for more information.
